We have received the following e-mail for Tom is the USA asking for help. If anybody could help him with some info and guidance it would be appreciated. Thanks all

Hello from America,

Trying to track down my great grandfather who came from Wales. The family bible has my great-grandfather, John E. Roberts, native of Wales. My grandfather Archie T Roberts (also know as Thomas A Roberts) was born in South Wales, near Cardiff (July 30, 1986), New Tradisar, South Lopondo Valley.

Thatís where the confusion comes, canít seem to locate New Tradisar or Lopono Valley. The closest I could come was Tredegar, your town. My family is planning on coming to Wales soon and was trying to get some information. Could you help or direct me to someone that could? Maybe there might be someone in City Hall that could direct us? I was in Wales many years age (Iím 74) and visited city hall in Cartiff and was told we had Robertsí that were also from Cartiff.

Appreciation from your kin in the USA.

Tom Roberts

This is a tricky one. New Tradisar could very well be New Tredegar, but South Lopondo Valley rings no bells.
Is it possible for our American friend to send a scan or photo image of the inscription in the family Bible? Presumably itís handwritten, and itís not always easy to distinguish individual letters. I remember years ago someone in Australia trying to decipher ĎTorhodyí from a census return. I suggested it might be Sirhowy; when they looked again they could see thatís what it was. So, if we could see the original from the Bible itís possible weíd see the letters differently and recognise something that made sense.
Iíve also had a quick look at the local censuses from that period, as I assumed others have, but nothing seems to fit there either.
