It is 60 years since the LMS railway in Tredefar was closed. It was really open just over 100 years before.
Beeching did not close Tred. BR made the decision and it seems likely that South Wales being largely GWR that had a part to play. I am told that GX locos had the driver on the opposite dide from LMS- not a huge problem but the signals would hve been more difficult.
However, The LMS, for whatever reason never improved the time to Newport so buses staerted taking all the trade.
Be that as may; railwiw now seems far better than road but there is no way Tred will get a train service again.
(Incidentally the Govilon to Brynmawr rail was the steepest commercial railway in all of UK)
