The following is my opinion only...

Tredegar is dying.

Dying from the complete lack of communication from its own Tredegar Town Council on many, if not all issues.

The Clock stopped for 12 months, all we received was a single email, and 2 erroneous update on the Councils own website.

The (heritage listed!) old Cholera Cemetary in Cefn Golau, is in a serious state of decline, and Tredegar Town Council aren't interested at all. Business sites are being demolished to make way for new housing, and the Council remains silent. Schools are closing down.

The Business District, the heart of any town, sees more boarded up shops than open ones.

There is very little in the town to occupy all teen-aged folk.

Tredegar's essential infra-structure is slowly being eroded away. Every week there is another story on something negative happening, and nothing is heard from the Council.

Tredegar residents pay more council tax than anywhere else in the Burough, due to their Town Council, and all they ask is that the Council establish an effective communication routine. Something that should have been done when Tredegar Urban District Council was abolished in 1974. That single act of abolition, was the beginning of the Towns decline. We don't want the decline to continue. We, "The Towns-Folk of Tredegar" want it stopped.

Let's start with Council communicating with its constituents.

ALL GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES, ELECTED OR APPOINTED TO OFFICE, NEED TO GOVERN FOR ALL THE PEOPLE, NOT JUST THOSE THAT VOTED FOR THEM.

Time to Honour Soldier.
Source - WalesOnline.

A TREDEGAR war hero has been honoured by his town council at Bedwellty House.

Corporal Matthew Narusberg, of Nantybwch, made Gazette headlines earlier this year when he paid tribute to his home town while serving in Afghanistan.
While working as a airborne medic for the 144 Parachute Medical Squadron he, with the help of colleague Phil Jones, built a replica model of the famous town clock to mark its 150th anniversary.
The story touched the hearts of people living in Tredegar and when town mayor John Morgan found out about the unusual tribute he was determined to honour Cpl Narusberg.
A small presentation was organised in time for Cpl Narusberg’s short visit to Tredegar where Mr Morgan gave the paratrooper a limited edition commemorative plate that was designed to mark the 150th anniversary of the town clock.
“When I was in Afghanistan my mother was sending me a copy of the Gazette every week,” Cpl Narusberg said.
“I was keeping up to date with what was going back home and I was reading about the plans for the 150th anniversary.
“I wanted to do something to mark the occasion so my friend Jonesy helped me build a model of the clock.
“We used the empty tube that the mortar shells come in, we used felt for the colour and we put the time as ten to eight because that was the time we were involved in a conflict with the Taliban shortly before.
“It didn’t take long to make but we were constantly explaining what we were doing to everyone who walked by.
“We even had people coming in and having photos taken by it.”
Town mayor John Morgan added: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the photo of the town clock model in Afghanistan.
“It made me realise that while we were celebrating there were people like who couldn’t get home because they were risking their lives every day.
“We wanted to make a presentation to Matthew to show that we are thinking of members of the town who are serving overseas.
“The presentation was very humbling for me, especially when I was listening to Matthew’s stories about saving lives.”
Tredegar town council are looking to get in touch with other people from the town who are serving, or have served abroad with the armed forces.
If you know of anyone contact the council on 01495 722352.

Well,

When we asked Tredegar Town Council directly what it was responsible foe, it came back with a list, see below.

Now “rejuvenation” or “Restoration” is NOT done by Tredegar Town Council (Its words, not mine).

From this, we can say that any statements saying “look what we (Tredegar Town Council) has done!” must be an attempt as claiming points due to either they are grabbing all the positive actions for things they have not done, or its political, and the labour controlled Town Council (and I use the word Council loosely) are looking for votes for the labour people who sit on the Town Council.

In summery, they DON’T do “rejuvenation” or “Restoration” of the park!

But if you want to enter the Christmas shop decoration contest, then you know where to go.

See below for full report.

Question...

Without Tredegar Town Council, would we have gained the grant for restoration to the park?

If not, why not?

If so, how so?

Thoughts, insights & knowledge please.

Now this is communication.

Did you hear it?

About 7 minutes into the program.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/noscript.shtml?/radio/aod/wales_aod.shtml?wales/roynoble_wed

Tredegar Town Clerk, John Evans, says my name (which was creepy enough), and goes on to say I'm from Oz, and I know about the clock, and he's pleased about that.

The nerve of that name dropping ******* **** *******.

This is the same bloke that once put the Gwent Police onto me!

aussiewelshman Posted - 04/04/2008 : 09:30:54
Goodness!

Have you heard?

On the Tredegar Town Council website, in the 'Ordinary' November Minutes, 2007...

quote:
4) One Voice Wales:- Response from Ken Burton regarding the Clerks position regarding his continued employment past retirement. The Clerk was asked to leave during the discussion of the One Voice email regarding his continuing employment. Following discussion it was agreed to operate a status-quo i.e. the Clerk would be required to give 6 months notice of future requests to continue his employment as Town Clerk.

I wonder if he had legal advice on that...

In my experience, no politician ever gets the message, until they've been voted out.

Good question... Could be, but I took it as a statement directed at our actions towards TTC.

I, like everyone else, would hate to see it any worse.

Agreed, you can't blame them for chasing money.

No, it wasn't via TTC or BGCBC.

I haven't started knocking.

As stated, where and when? It's only recently we've seen any updates from their website at all. As for the media, I believe there were 2 or 3 articles published in the past 12 months.

Small steps is it? From a Council that has been in existence since 1974?

TTC website has a little over 1800 hits.

I must be 800 of them.
