Many thanks to Bryan and John for this image of a school class from the Grammer school taken approx 1941/42

I think the boy at the back far left is my father John Davies. He would have been 11 at the time.

I notice that not one pupil is wearing a uniform.
So when was it made compulsory for a school uniform to be worn in the Grammar school.Does anyone know?

This was wartime. Uniforms had been dropped. I do not know if they sere used prior to the war

I remember having a smart new blazer when starting at the grammar school in the mid-50s, but I donít remember ever replacing it! Apart from having to wear a cap I think the school had quite a relaxed attitude towards uniform.
