I remember in early 70s myself and a few friends in Tred Comp saving for a couple of weeks running and paying weekly for a trip to Porthcawl.we used to take the money into their office witch I think was next to the Red Lion.this trip got very popular as we used to fill the bus every Wihtsun Monday.Don't think this would be allowed these days as we were only 15 or 16 years old.and no adults with us.lovely memories of bank holiday Monday's
My Nana Edith (Edie) Davies, used to work for Illin?? (Spelling). This was in the late 50's and 60's. Cleaning the buses and collecting the money for some of the trips. One of the pick up points for the trips was outside her house on North Avenue, Ashvale. I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time on these trips from being tiny. Many of the mystery tours used to end up at the seaside or along the river Severn as this was where my Nan was from. My favourite memory was singing all the way home. There was a yearly trip to Blackpool usually the first weekend in September and in 1965 one of the first foreign trips was to Holland and Belgium.
