In light of the detrimental and devastating socio-economic effects on our most vulnerable communities, the Welsh Government has today (15/07/20), announced a £9million town centre support and recovery fund for Wales. Following recent National reports outlining Tredegar as the most deprived town in Wales, and second only in the UK, the more optimistic among us might suggest that Tredegar town centre will soon be transformed! The more realistic and pessimistic among us will wait and observe the allocation, if any, be diverted, squandered and back-pocketed as usual!

Rest assured Blaenau Gwent CBC will find reason why any grant towards Tredegar would be better spent in Ebbw Vale.

If this money does come our way I would hope that a percentage of this allowance goes to supporting our teenagers, the Youth cafe in the circle appeared to provide this. This age group needs to be occupied and have a chance to socialise outside the school environment safely.

It would be nice to see some of the monies coming to Tredegar, but with the almost certain closure of the Festival Park shops, it would be a good bet thatís were the money would go.

Sorry to be a pessimist but Local Govt is seldom good at such developments. The precinct in Tredegar killed Commercial St and Castle St. Woollies, GPO and Bank went there as did Tesco.
They did not stay.
AH well !!1
