Asda customers are being warned to watch out for a Facebook scam that could leave them hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

Fraudsters are posing as the retail giant and offering free £1,000 shopping vouchers when you click on a seemingly innocent link.

The fraud begins within a sponsored advert, offering 'women born in October' a free £1,000 gift card.

The paid-for ad appears on a page called 'ASDA Gifts' and includes a photograph of two women with a shopping trolley loaded with groceries, all of which appear to outside of the UK.

The text on the advert reads: "Good news, We are giving away £1000 Asda Gift Cards across the country to raise brand awareness! Please complete a short survey below to figure out if youíre eligible to get it. Act fast! Only 949 Gift Cards left."

Donít get caught out

There are loads of this kind of advert on Facebook, from free campervans (supposedly last years models so they have to give them away) to vouchers from all the supermarkets, a lot are "like farming" explained here
Always check when the page was created as most genuine ones are well established, look at this one

Some you have to click a link and enter personal details to win and that's a no-no.
I can't believe the number of people who enter the "trivia" quizzes, a lot of these are linked to the year and/or month you were born, maiden name, where you live etc etc, all the details you really don't want to be giving out. They usually start with "Only 5 people out of 10 answered these questions correctly, how will you do?)
