"The Red Arrows were in South Wales last weekend and it brought back fond memories of my late dear friend Francis J. Hoare (1941-1999 ) who was a very proud Tredegar boy and excelled exceedingly well during his time in the RAF. Iíve attached some information regarding Francis and would be obliged if you put it on the Tredegar Website for those who may have known Francis and anyone else interested."
Yes I knew Francis a little (he was some years younger than me). He was known as Frank in the RAF. He flew with the Arrows and later commanded them. He was laer a Group Commander and CO of RAF Coningsby (Lincs) which was the leading Jaguar base in UK. I was visiting the flying museum at Staverton (Glos) and happened to speak to an ex- Arrows engineer. I mentioned Francis and his comment was "A Gentleman". No further comment needed. I believe his wife is a Tredegar girl and did survive him
Francis married Jean Jackson in July 1965 the three of us were in the same form (started 1952) in the Grammar School and I believe her father may have been the manager of the Tredegar Brickworks. She had an older sister named Margaret who was several forms above us in school. The last time I saw Jean and her sister was in a school reunion in 2002 just 3 years after Francis died and I presume she is still alive living somewhere in England.
