A few weeks ago on a gardening programme with Alan Titchmarsh a young lady on the programme was growing plants from e.g., root vegetable waste. It involved saving the base where the root is and she planted them in jars with the root base dangling in the water. I have tried this with a red onion and the roots have really taken off and to my amazement out of the top of the onion there are green tube like pencil size shapes growing. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and what am I likely to end up with that might be edible. They look a bit like spring onion shape. Do I keep them in the jar or do I plant it in soil. Any ideas?
